Together we will produce high end drama, documentary and art films for screening, socials, streaming, exhibitions, festivals and broadcast; giving a voice to our community and championing queer film.
Reel Queer is a FREE 5 year film project (2023-2028) working with people from the LGBTQIA+ community living in the Liverpool City Region.

MICRO SHORTS
This years filmmaking training will come in the form of the MICRO SHORTS scheme! Get a grounding in filmmaking whilst making your own film and work as a crew. Changing rolls on each of the MICRO SHORTS films from Camera, Sound, Lighting, Directing and Editing. 1 Day a week over 5 weeks. Find your passion and go on to take specialist courses in Cinematography, Lighting, Editing, Sound, composing or Directing.

Learn music composition from an professional musician. Learn industry standard music editing software Logic and how to compose for a short film.

Learn industry standard screenwriting. The course over 20 sessions will take you on a journey from idea through to first draft of a short film. Including creating your premise, scene by scene and treatment. Finished Scripts get the chance to be pitched and made into short films. All levels of experience welcome.

You’ve got a film, but you need people to see it! How can you secure an audience for your work?
In this one-day session we’ll explore the ways in which films make their way to cinemas and beyond.
Learn to edit with Industry standard editing software. Work with a Director and experienced Editor to create the best narative through performance, pace, structure and shot choice. 2 day intensive course.

Gain in depth skills in Camera and lighting and how to narate story through image, use of colour, lighting, shotsize, camera angle, composition camera techniques, different lenses and working with an art department and director to create the perfect vision for a film. 2 day course. Previous experience or completion of the filmmaking course preferable.
FIRST TAKE COMMITS TO WORKING IN LGBTQi+ COMMUNITY 2020-2030
First Take makes films for social good and to highlight and tackle social and economic injustice.
The current climate has become more and more hostile to the LGBTQi+ Community and as a Queer led organisation we want to focus our work to protect, represent, support and improve the lives of people in this community.
We believe in doing so we will make a better more tolerant society for all. Watch this space for new projects and opportunities for LGBTQi+.
We also understand the principles of intersectionality and that this effects certain communities more than others. Like underrepresented ethnicities, working class, women, and people with disabilities and so we will target and welcome these groups.
We embrace the word QUEER and will be approaching all our work with a QUEER sensibility. Seeing the world through a Queer lens and Queering it up.
